In anticipation of Vast Aire and DJ Mighty Mi’s release of The Best Damn Rap Show, which was released on 4-5-05, we politicked with Vast and Mi to discuss their respective “Best Of’s”; let the healthy debates over their answers ensue!
HHS: What’s the best damn Indy rap record of all time?
Mighty Mi: Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect your Neck” (original 12″)
Vast Aire: “The Best Damn Rap Show”
HHS: Who’s the best damn emcee of all time?
Mighty Mi: Golden Era= KRS-One, Modern Era= Jay-Z
Vast Aire: There are too many dope emcees to say “he or she is the best” but I like Redman and Ghostface.
HHS: Who’s the best damn producer of all time?
Mighty Mi: Dr. Dre
Vast Aire: Again, there are too good dope producers to just single out one, but right now I’m feeling Just Blaze, Kanye West and RZA.
HHS: What’s the best damn thing about being independent?
Mighty Mi: Making whatever music you feel like making
Vast Aire: Nothing (laughter), there is nothing great about being an Independent artist. It’s allot of hard work.
HHS: What’s the worst damn thing about being independent?
Mighty Mi: Being so DAMN broke all the time.
Vast Aire: People think their the shit with their little fan base, it all means nothing; half of them will hate you in two years for getting a larger fan base. It’s like they don’t like you because other people know about you? It’s crazy!
HHS: What’s the best damn rap concert/show you’ve ever seen?
Mighty Mi: LL Cool J – Radio Tour in 1987, Stetasonic, Whodini, Eric B & Rakim, Jazzy Jeff, B.D.P. and LL.
Vast Aire: Nice And Smooth, I saw them do “Hip Hop Junkies,” it was dope they had to do the song twice. Black Sheep too, it changed my life.

Mighty Mi: “Taboo”
Vast Aire: “Vintage,” “Taboo,” or “What Goes Up.”
