After remixing Outkast’s “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” into a big room, electro anthem earlier this year (“Spottie”), Manik and I decided next we would take on The Beastie Boys’ “Root Down” for our next Hellafine remix. This is one of those tracks that always worked at b-boy parties, but we wanted to be able to play it in [cont.]
The aim of “Back To Skool” was to do a classic hip-hop mix, built around today’s generation of emcees. Virtually all of the tracks on this mix invoke the old school hip-hop feeling, yet everything here was recorded within the last year or so. There is a fine art to opening. Having played alongside artists like Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Dada Life, and others, the opening set can be quite a challenge for some.
